In 2008, Aquatera's MD, Dr Gareth Davies, attended a marine renewables-related trade mission to Chile, an event organised by Scottish Development International (SDI). Here a relationship was established with local Chilean organisations which has led to Aquatera being asked to carry out a feasibility study on the potential for wave energy to support a major industrial site.
Community involvement lies at the heart of the Aquatera's work in Chile. During his visit to Santiago, Dr Davies heard about a group of local scientists and engineers who were promoting the potential for exploiting their country's vast marine energy resources. Dr Davies is due to return to Chile in July 2010 to evaluate detailed plans and discuss development options with various agencies.
