Environmental Literature Review

There are many reports, studies and surveys, published and unpublished, relating to the interaction of offshore hydrocarbon exploration and production activities with the environment. These have been generated by national and international trade associations, regulators, individual companies, joint industry projects and research bodies. It was realised that these reports provided a wealth of potentially important information that would benefit from being brought to the wider attention of all operators and stakeholders. Oil & Gas UK commissioned Aquatera to undertake an Evidence Review process to compile and assess this body of work with a specific focus on the North East Atlantic/UKCS area.

Phase 1 involved the preparation of a database of the relevant studies based on records held by a wide range of contractors and operators. The second phase of the project involved the preparation of an initial series of scientific reviews covering five of the most strategically important environmental issues: interactions with fisheries, water column and seabed effects, and the impacts of oil spills and underwater sound.
