Ocean Power Technologies
In 2007, Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) was awarded a grant by the Scottish Government for the construction and installation of its PowerBuoy technology at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), in Orkney. OPT subsequently signed a Berth Agreement with EMEC that allowed for deployment and operation of PowerBuoys up to a maximum capacity of 2 MW, with provision for OPT to sell power into the national grid.
As part of the EMEC application process, OPT commissioned Aquatera to complete a device-specific environmental impact assessment (EIA), along with an abligatory environmental statement (ES). Following on from this, OPT also employed Aquatera to conduct resource assessment and site selection studies to determine suitable areas for future PowerBuoy deployment.
