|John Flett Brown, BSc DPhil|
John has more than 40 years experience as a professional geologist worldwide. Educated at Stromness Academy, Edinburgh University and University College Oxford. He lectured In the Geology Departments of Florida State University, USA and St Andrews University, Scotland.
Leaving academia in 1979, he entered the oil industry and became Chief Geologist and Exploration Superintendent for Mobil Oil Libya. Retiring in 1991 he continued as an independent geological consultant and furthered his academic interest in the lacustrine sediments of the Scottish Devonian. He has been a councillor on Orkney Islands Council, Chairperson of two fishing companies, Director of Environment and Resource Technology Ltd and on the North Board of SEPA.
Regarded as a local expert on Orkney geology, he has 34 academic papers, book chapters, internal reports and an Orkney geology website to his name.
