Established in 1972, Heddle Construction is a privately owned Construction, Civil Engineering, Crane Hire and Plant Hire business, based in Orkney that has built up an exceptional reputation within the local community and further afield for providing a high standard of workmanship and service. Heddle prides itself on continued good working relationships with local, national and international contractors.
Heddle has been involved with renewable energy projects in Orkney since the first prototype wind turbine was erected on Burgar Hill in the early 1980's. In recent times, the company has provided a service from crane hire to the complete infrastructure, substructure and superstructure for all major windfarm developments throughout the Orcadian archipelago, including customers such as NEG Micon, Nordex, Vestas and Enercon. Heddle's experience of working in outreach places throughout the Orkney Islands, along with knowledge of heavy civil engineering in harsh environments, stands the company in good stead for these types of contracts.
More recently, Heddle has become actively involved in the marine renewables sector, played a major part in establishing the onshore site facilities at the EMEC wave energy test site at Billia Croo, near Stromness in Orkney. Most notably, Heddle has provided civil works for the deployment and testing of both Aquamarine Power's Oyster 1 and Oyster 2 devices. In addition, Heddle has provided crane hire, plant hire and steel fabrication for companies such as Tidal Generation Ltd, Open Hydro, Atlantis Resources Corporation, Scotrenewables Tidal Power Ltd and Voith Hydro Ocean Current Technologies.
